The Faculty of Theology of the University of Split and the Croatian Catholic Medical Society (CCMS website) hosted an international scientific symposium titled "Theology and Medicine in Front of the Challenges of Gender Change" on May 12, 2023 (Friday). The symposium took place in the Faculty's Grand Hall (1st floor, Zrinsko-Frankopanska 19, Split).
The symposium brought together 14 domestic and foreign lecturers who spoke about the challenges of gender change from a medical, legal, social and humanistic perspective of science.
The focus areas of the symposium were:
- Medical Sciences: Discussions centered on psychiatric, endocrinological, hormonal and anatomical aspects of gender change.
- Socio-Humanistic Aspects: This session explored gender fluidity and transgenderism, questions of identity, its development, and the impact of identity crisis on adolescent decisions.
- Legal and Religious Considerations: The final session addressed the legal regulation of medical gender change in EU member states, the integration of the right to gender change into the Croatian legal system, and the relationship of canon law provisions to these issues.
The symposium program was also livestreamed on the Faculty's Facebook page. Participation in the symposium was recognized as professional development for pharmacists and as part of continuous medical education for doctors.
