Undergraduate University Study Programme in Theological and Religious Sciences

The enrolment requirements are as follows:

• Passing the State Matura examination.
• An additional knowledge test for applicants who did not attend Religious Education in secondary school.
• Obtaining a sufficient number of points in the motivational interview.

The criteria for compiling the ranking list based on the State Matura examination are determined according to the following points system:

1. Based on secondary school achievement – up to 32%.
2. Based on the results of the State Matura examinations (B level):
   • Croatian language – up to 14%,
   • Mathematics – up to 10%,
   • Foreign or classical language – up to 14%,
   • Elective subject – History or another subject (optional) – up to 14%.
3. Based on the assessment of specific abilities:
   • Additional knowledge test in Catholic Religious Education for applicants who did not study it in secondary school – up to 14%, with a threshold of 10%,
   • Motivational interview – an eliminatory requirement for enrolment in the study programme – up to 8%, with a threshold of 5%.
4. Based on additional student achievements (up to 8% in total):
   • completion of an additional secondary school programme – 4%,
   • knowledge of a world language not studied in secondary school – 4%,
   • one of the first three places in a national sports or subject competition – 4%,
   • one of the first three places in the Religious Education Olympiad – 4%.

Knowledge

• Evaluate the main schools and representatives of philosophical thought from its beginnings to the present day.
• Critically assess the main theses concerning the content, origin and theological message of biblical writings.
• Assess the key theological questions concerning the knowledge of God.
• Distinguish the stages of the development of the Church from its beginnings to the contemporary period.
• Explain the fundamental contents, aims and tasks of catechesis.
• Identify the motives and reasons for the causes and consequences of divisions within Christianity.

Cognitive skills

• Interpret the concepts and methods of practical philosophy.
• Critically evaluate the relationship between reason and faith, and between Christianity and world religions.
• Creatively use and integrate the fundamental principles of Christian moral theology.
• Distinguish and interpret the main cosmological and theodicy-related questions.
• Analyse the relationship between the Church and secular rulers throughout history.

Psychomotor skills

• Present and apply the fundamental methods of interpreting Holy Scripture.
• Categorise the lives and works of the most important Christian Eastern and Western writers and theologians, from the Apostolic period to the Middle Ages, and adapt their pastoral-catechetical contributions and methods.
• Analyse and distinguish the principles governing psychological processes and their influence on human behaviour.

Social skills

• Promote the social teaching of the Church and classify its fundamental principles and emphases.
• Interactively present the influence of Church councils, heresies and the Church on the development of society and culture.
• Interpret different forms of Christian life and evaluate Catholic principles of ecumenism through dialogue.
• Explain through dialogue the biblical and theological foundations of Christian discourse on God and the Church.

Independence

• Manage personal and professional abilities on the basis of theological and moral virtues.
• Plan and design individual and team forms of communication based on the biblical message and literary works in the creation and preparation of parish catechesis.
• Independently carry out didactic analysis and integrate methodological systems into religious education and catechesis.
• Design and conduct catechesis for preschool children.

Responsibility

• Interpret and implement Christian ethics and anthropology in personal and professional work.
• Actualise the interpretation of general and personal history starting from the event of God's revelation in Jesus Christ.
• Cooperate in promoting the importance of the ecumenical movement.
• Strategically manage methodological and didactic variables in the planning and implementation of Religious Education teaching.

The acquired knowledge and skills enable employment in various areas of social life, particularly in church and social contexts. A University Bachelor (Baccalaureus/Baccalaurea) in Theological and Religious Sciences has employment opportunities in:

• religious preschool institutions,
• associations,
• social institutions,
• parish catechesis up to the 4th grade of primary school or as a parish animator.
